Caching Made Easy - The fastest round trip is the one that doesn't happen
Caching has been a hot topic on TheServerSide as of late. The incorporation of a solid cache can be one of the most cost effective ways of improving application performance. But at the same time, a misused cache can be a source of bizarre bugs and difficult to track problems. Want to know the ins and outs of enterprise caching? Well, Joe's here to make it all make sense.

Site Highlights

How do you decide whether to move BPM to cloud?
Learn what issues to consider when moving BPM to the cloud, including processes, the interfaces, and the state of the databases involved.

Are visualizations the answer to gathering requirements?
Requirements elicitation is a challenge in software developments. Find out how business analysts are able to create simulations to gather customer requirements using visualization software.

TSSJS Spotlight

Session Spotlight: Iterative Anti-Patterns in Your Test Code
There are testing anti-patterns in your code. The problem is, you just dona??t know theya??re there. We must treat our tests with the same kind of zeal as we do for our production code. Join author of the bestselling "Test Driven: Practical TDD and Acceptance TDD for Java Developers," Lasse Koskela, as he introduces the key test anti-patterns to look out for - along with what to do when you spot one.

Learn more about The Iterative Anti-Patterns in Your Test Code at TheServerSide Java Symposium 2011.

Key Enterprise Java News Headlines

What is faster? Hashtable/hashmap, others?
James Sutherland has published a series of microbenchmarks on performance of specific twinned classes - things like Hashtable vs. HashMap, etc. etc. He has some interesting conclusions.

Tapestry 5.2 released, all four users rejoice?
Howard Ship has released Tapestry 5.2.4, what he calls the first stable release since April 2009. Enhancements: no more page pooling, live service reloading, query parameter support, bean validation, documentation, and a new motto!

Lack-of-Progress Bar plugin for Eclipse
There's now a "Lack of Progress Bar" plugin for Eclipse, that tracks how long developers wait for background jobs to complete. There's an actual use to it!

Word Lens - translation app for iPhone, works on the fly
Quest Visual has created an app called Word Lens for the iPhone, available on iTunes. It translates printed text on the fly between spanish and english. Incredible.
